Abstract

The purpose of this article is to record the polio epidemics suffered in Argentina during the 20th century. It describes the medical consequences, the policies carried out by the different governments to confront them, the reaction of society to the threat of the disease, the various procedures performed to obtain the vaccine and its application to community. Since poliomyelitis is a disease capable of leaving disabling sequelae, the second part of this study analyzes the different entities along with public and private measures that were taken for the rehabilitation of patients.
